On 30 June 2019, the population of St.Gallen approved the new Platztor Campus of the University of St.Gallen, with roughly 63 per cent in favour. Thanks to this new location, the town and the HSG will be moving closer together and the importance of Eastern Switzerland as a centre of education and business will be strengthened.

CREATIVE PATHS OF KNOWLEDGE
Together with the agency Zense, the Vice-President’s Board for Research and Faculty is following new paths of knowledge transfer: in brief GIFs, emerging researchers show what they are working on. These “Academic GIF-ts” build a creative bridge to the public; have a look for yourself, and see what contactless payment can achieve and how a “Monday for Meaning” can be created out of a grey Monday morning!
15 YEARS OF THE CHILDRENS UNIVERSITY
The HSG Celebrates 15 Years of the Children’s University. 15 years ago, the University of St.Gallen brought the first children’s university in Switzerland into being – and with great success too. Thanks to growing numbers of participants, the HSG counted 2,100 schoolchildren attending in the past year.

GROUND BREAKING FOR THE LEARNING CENTER
On 6 November, at 4 p.m., the ground-breaking for the construction of the new HSG Learning Center on the Rosenberg took place. The building, designed by Sou Fujimoto Architects, the renowned architectural practice, is intended to radiate as a new and innovative place of learning and to enable forward-looking didactic forms. The HSG Learning Center is planned to begin operations in Spring Semester 2022.

INSTITUTE FOR COMPUTER SCIENCE
Institute for Computer Science, with a View to a Corresponding Master Programme and the Introduction of IT as a Component of Business Administration Studies. Artificial intelligence, autonomous robots, data science and neuro-adaptive software: these are the subjects to be investigated by the new Institute for Computer Science (ICS-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen. There is great interest in these subject areas both within and beyond the University of St.Gallen.

FINANCIAL TIMES RANKING
28 October 2019: The international business newspaper the Financial Times has published its ranking of Master programmes in Management for 2019. The study programme “Strategy and International Management” (SIM-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen occupies, for the ninth time in succession, the first place – worldwide.
9 December 2019: In the annual Financial Times ranking of the best business universities in Europe, the University of St.Gallen again occupies fourth place. Since 2012 the HSG has always been placed in the top ten of this ranking, which currently includes the 95 best business universities.

FOUNDATION OF THE COMPETENCE CENTER FOR AFRICAN RESEARCH
The HSG Opens the Competence Center for African Research (CCAR-HSG). The new Center gathers together the expertise in research on Africa at the University of St.Gallen. Its results are intended to provide an academically grounded foundation for decisions to be made by companies, NGOs and politicians.

HANDOVER ON THE PRESIDENT´S BOARD
Prof. Dr. Bernhard Ehrenzeller succeeds the President Prof. Dr. Thomas Bieger on 1 February 2020. Thomas Bieger worked for fifteen years at the head of the University of St.Gallen, nine of which as its President.
HOMECOMING OF THE EMBA
On 28 February, the Alumni of the Executive MBA at the HSG met up on the campus of the WBZ for the first Homecoming event. Under the motto “Being human – staying human”, they received further inspiration via lectures and workshops – and not just for their daily working life.

WEBINARS DURING CORONA CRISIS
What are the legal consequences of the Corona crisis for managers and leaders? What does the lockdown mean for the economy? How can we work efficiently in a Home Office setting? Members of the HSG teaching staff analyse these and many further questions in a free series of webinars.

For the first time, the Bachelor and Master Graduation Days did not take place in the traditional festive setting of the Audimax at the University but rather online, with some very personal video messages to the graduating students. You can see what it was like here.

On 26 March, the Open Day for Secondary School Graduates was carried out digitally for the first time – with great success! Future students of the HSG, from the comfort of their own homes, were able to find the information they needed about the advantages and challenges of studying here with us. LAUNCH OF THE LATAM-TERM
The St.Gallen Institute for Management in Latin America (GIMLA) is launching a Latam-Term in the spring of 2021: Bachelor students will spend a semester at the renowned FGV-EAESP in São Paulo, thereby also receiving practical insights into the business world of Latin America. You can get an insight into living, studying and working in Brasil from HSG exchange students, alumni and partners.

LAYING OF THE FOUNDATION STONE (with Added Wishes)
On 28 May, a time capsule will be placed in the foundation stone slab of the HSG Learning Center, carrying many wishes and hopes for its future. Join us on 28 May 2020 from 11 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and celebrate the laying of the foundation stone with us by means of a live stream (see the link given above), whether you are in the comfort of your own home, in the office or on the move.
Shape a piece of contemporary history together with us. If you submit your wishes here by 25 May 2020, they will be stored in a time capsule and encased in concrete in the foundation stone of the HSG Learning Center.
GO-AHEAD FOR THE JOINT MEDICAL MASTER
In 2017 the cantonal government of St.Gallen gave the decisive impetus to counter a shortage of qualified doctors in the region. Now, for the first time, in the autumn future doctors will be able to begin their studies on a Joint Medical Master which has been developed in collaboration with the University of Zürich and the cantonal hospital of St.Gallen.
